How to take a Replit app to production
Your Replit-built app works. What to fix before real users, whether to keep it on Replit or move it, and what it costs.

Replit lets you build, run and deploy an app in one place, and its AI agent can generate much of it for you. For many early products that is enough to launch. The question is what has to change once customers, payments and growth arrive.
Stay on Replit or move?
| Stay on Replit if | Move to your own cloud if |
|---|---|
| Traffic is modest and predictable | You need specific regions for data (UAE, Canada, EU) |
| One small team works on it | Several engineers need branches, reviews and staging |
| You value the simplicity | You need fine control over cost, scaling and backups |
Either way, the code should live in a Git repository you control.
What usually needs work
- Secrets kept in the platform’s secret store, never in code, and rotated if they were ever exposed.
- Separate staging and production, so you don’t test on live customers.
- Database backups you have actually restored once.
- Server-side permission checks on every data request.
- Validation and rate limiting on public endpoints.
- Payments with verified webhooks.
- Tests on the flows that make money.
- Monitoring with alerts to a person.
Time and cost
| Starting point | Typical time | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Harden in place | 1 – 2 weeks | $3,000 – $6,000 |
| Harden and move to your cloud | 2 – 3 weeks | $6,000 – $12,000 |
