How to take a Lovable app to production

Your Lovable prototype has real users. Here is what usually needs fixing before production, how long it takes and what it costs.

Lovable is one of the fastest ways to turn an idea into a working web app. It typically produces a React front end and connects to Supabase for the database and sign-in, and it can sync the code to GitHub. That gets you a convincing product in days.

What it doesn’t guarantee is that the app is safe and reliable once strangers start using it. These are the issues we see most often, and what fixing them involves.

The ten-point production check

#CheckWhat often goes wrong in a prototype
1Database access rulesSupabase row-level security missing or too loose, so users can read others’ data
2SecretsPrivate API keys called from the browser instead of a server function
3Sign-inNo email verification, weak password reset, sessions that never expire
4Roles and permissionsAdmin actions checked only in the interface, not on the server
5Input validationForms trusted as-is; no server-side checks
6PaymentsStripe checkout works, but webhooks aren’t verified or reconciled
7Data modelTables that made sense for the demo but won’t survive new features
8Errors and monitoringNo alerts, so you hear about bugs from customers
9TestsNone on the flows that make money
10AI costsModel calls without limits, so one user can run up the bill

Harden it or rebuild it?

Most Lovable apps can be hardened rather than rebuilt: the interface is usually fine, and the work is in the database rules, server functions and tests. We recommend a rebuild only when the data model is wrong for where the product is going. A short review tells you which.

What it takes

Starting pointTypical timeTypical cost
Small app, one user type, no payments1 – 2 weeks$3,000 – $6,000
App with payments and roles2 – 3 weeks$6,000 – $12,000
Complex app needing data model changes3+ weeks$12,000 – $25,000

Can you keep using Lovable afterwards?

Yes, for interface changes, if you are careful. We document which parts are safe to edit with the builder and which should only change through code review, so you keep the speed without undoing the fixes.

What you need to share

Read access to the GitHub repository, access to the Supabase project (or an export of the schema), and a list of the three flows customers use most.
